Evaluation.

At the beginning of this assignment I had an idea in my head of my final collection being simple, white shirts, big chunky knit and oversized. Then I changed my designs in my last project which then I have worked into again and developed my ideas to create better designs for my final line up with six final designs. Throughout my project my ideas have changed a lot on the decision of my primary research being fuller with shape and textures. My trip to the beach really opened my eyes and gave me much more inspiration and shapes to design from. Over all my research led me to a better outcome which I am surprisingly happy with. My strengths throughout this project have been different than my last project as I have been able to be more creative and explore more into my theme by gathering more research and further my design developments which made my sketchbook work well with a simple creative theme through out. It made me take more Interest in my sketchbook and experiment more with it, rather than being scared of putting anything into it which where my weaknesses at the beginning of the project. I mostly enjoyed collecting my primary images and objects from the beach and designing more with the shapes and textures. experimenting with media on fabrics and creating different patterns also worked well. I least enjoyed the start of my project as I was finding it difficult to expand from my last brief. designing at the beginning of my design process wasn't as hard as last time as I already had a starting point from previous which was helpful. If I done this project again I would probably make sure I done my research at the beginning rather than few weeks in. My research really influenced my designs because when I would find something different that I liked it would spark an idea for my own designs and help me progress with my design ideas. Over all I am very happy with my project and work that I have produced as I feel my skills have shown progress and I also Enjoyed using Illustrator and incorporating Illustration in my project.

Design Developments

Ive took all my primary images and designed from them, the shapes of shells and design inspiration that I've looked at throughout this project and created new designs incorporating new shapes and styles. I thought about my fabric choices whilst designing also and come up with my six final designs for my line up. (Final line up shown at bottom)

print work.

I sent off to get two fabric samples of silk and a thick cotton with a digital print on. The print I designed myself with mixed media to create a colour splash ressembling water and the sea. I thought the prints come out nice but I decided that the colours were too bright and that it wouldn't fit in with my colour theme or collection. I then changed the opacity and colour to a more toned down and plain colours to match my theme, light blue and grey these both worked better as a print as the colour fitted better. I also made a repeated pattern with my primary drawing of a continuos line drawing of unfinished ceramic bowls I looks plain but creative although I would not like to use it in my collection.

Global Context.

For my Global context I have chosen too look into waste and global warming and the effects it has on the natural surrounding.I have Looked at the campaign collaboration with Adidas and designer Alexander Taylor.They made a pair of trainers from ocean waste to Raise awareness of the growing environmental issue. At my trip to the beach I took photographs of the dangers at the seaside for that environment such as; fishing nets and ropes that have been disposed of in the sea and left to float around and endanger the animals and then washing up on the beach to collect waste and plants on the sore and also things like rubbish, plastic bottles and wrappers blowing round the beach because someone hasn't had the decency to put it in the bin causing litter and polluting the ocean and the environment.I   then took images of the safety equipment and warning signs that was about on the beach but yet their where no signs about littering or polluting on the beach.

Research points

I looked at oversized pants and chunky oversized knit to influence my design developments I really like the look of the long flowing trousers with the giant pleat down the middle, it gives something so plain that big more detail and edge. I also looked at a Chinese designer that designed a range called no mans land which was all about the earth and the unknown. She has a very unusual style and uses a lot of structure. 

Colour theme and chosen fabrics.

The colour theme for my collection is blue, grey, white, brown. I looked at textures to influence my final colours and fabrics for my final line up. The colour palette below is the official pantone colours from WGSN. I found the colour tones that I want to use for my final colours. The fabrics I have chosen from this research is; leather, cotton, felt-wool and knitted fabric. I tried to choose natural fabrics to relate to my theme.

A trip to the beach!

For my Primary research I went the beach to take pictures and collect objects for my archive box. I focused on the skyline, shells, sand, pebbles and washed up sea objects to get details, patterns and shape to help with my design developments. The colour theme shows right through all the images as well; calm blue, beige, grey and browns.

For this project I aim to create a final Line up consisting of six full garments based on the theme ‘Elemental’ I chose this trend because I could see what type of style I wanted my collection to be which is; natural, calming, relaxed, knitted, high necks, lace up details. To get to this conclusion I will thoroughly research the natural forms by taking a trip to the seaside and collecting primary objects such as; stones, shells, bark, fossils and washed up sea objects. All the things that relate and come to mind when I think of the natural elements; sea, sky, sand, water. This will help me get unusual shapes and textures to develop my designs and also show where I got my colour palette from by the images I have taken. At my trip to the beach I will look out for examples of ocean waste and photograph it as evidence for my global context. My Collection target market would be someone aged 19-25, fashion and business orientated. A fashion buyer earning about £60,000 a year, likes to eat out twice a week or more for luxury dinners and Always makes time to go out with friends when not busy with work. Likes to keep up with the latest trends. I would say my collection is wearable for sophisticated daytime looks and is warm, stylish and fashionable. Experimenting with shape and texture is what I will do in my design process before I come to the conclusion of my final six designs to make sure the style and shape will work with the chosen fabrics which are; cotton, knit, leather,and wool felt. The colour chart I will use is a calm selection of colours; light blues, greys, stoney brown, dusky pink and white. I will create My own mood board with the collected primary objects from the beach in a  archive box. Also I will create a presentable sketchbook showing my design process from start to finish and sample with the chosen fabrics to help to develop my designs and show what will and what won’t work. Finally showing my six final outfits as a line up with fashion Illustrations.

Illustration work shop.

When creating my Illustrations I used a variety of media; Ink, paints, pastels, charcoal and fine liner. I used these to experiment with each medias and also mixing them to see the effect it has. My favourite  media to use is ink as I like the dripping effect it has. I find it creates drama and detail to the image.
